Ice cream freshness. It’s probably not in your top ten food safety worries, but according to the FDA, it matters. Sub Zero is here for you with the freshest ice cream.

What Are the Dangers?

Over the last few years, there have been occasional news stories about commercial ice cream contaminated with Listeria and Salmonella. It was enough to prompt an FDA investigation. “The FDA began the assignment on August 1, 2016, following 16 recalls of ice cream products due to the presence of pathogens in the prior three years, and an outbreak of listeriosis linked to an ice cream maker in 2015 that involved three deaths.”1 Even though it doesn’t always result in death, listeriosis is serious, particularly for pregnant women because it can cause stillbirths. Find a link to the FDA article and results at the bottom.

Sub Zero ice cream is made fresh, to order, with cleaned and sanitized equipment because we care about providing our customers with the freshest ice cream. It’s comforting to know that every batch of ice cream is made individually. It’s a difference that you can not only taste, but that might save you from disease. Sub Zero locations follow strict SOP (standard operating procedures) and we do not compromise our standards.

Most of these problems have been in the manufacturing plants. We are our own manufacturer so we get to control every aspect of how your ice cream gets made. By cutting out the middle man, we give you higher quality and more peace of mind.

What About Making My Own Ice Cream?

If your solution is to make ice cream yourself instead, know there are still risk factors. The FDA has published the following article with guidelines to help ensure that you prepare your ice cream safely.2 We won’t blame you if it’s too much to worry about, and we would be happy to ensure the safety of your ice cream for you.

Be safe and enjoy ice cream!
