Sensations sound, well, sensational, but what are they really like? Here’s one perspective that might help make your decision a little easier.
Our feature this week is Cherry Charge: Cherry Ice Cream, Chocolate Flakes, and Maraschino Cherries.
I’ve been really looking forward to this once because of it’s simple and time honored combination, cherries and chocolate. Think a cherry cordial in ice cream form. You already know the flavors blend beautifully. It reminds me of the holiday season because that’s when I usually receive the classic chocolates as gifts. Too bad they’re hard to find other times of the year, but that’s where Sub Zero has you covered. Like Christmas in July!
The Cherry ice cream is everything I imagined it would be, fruity and sweet with that classic cherry flavor. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I would steal the juice off the maraschino cherries on the sundae bar to make my plain vanilla ice cream cherry flavored. I wonder if that’s where they get their cherry flavoring? It blends perfectly with the maraschino cherries. It’s a simple enough flavor that you can really appreciate the unique texture and creaminess specific to Sub Zero ice cream. A great choice for a first visit, it won’t overwhelm.
Chocolate flakes I’ve often raved about for their perfect mix-in texture and universally appealing flavor. Here they’re no exception. The chocolate flavor definitely pops against the fruity cherry flavors. Every bite is like that first bite into a cherry cordial where the chocolate just breaks satisfyingly as the cherry flavor seeps out over your tongue. The crunchy flaky texture contrasts just right with the soft flesh of the cherry. The maraschino cherry pieces are just the right amount of fruit to enhance that cherry flavor and evoke those memories of that cherry in the center or the cherry on top. This is so classic, so tried and true, it’s hard to beat.
Bottom line: Cherry cordial in ice cream form. Fruity, chocolatey, and just the right balance of soft and crunchy mix-ins. Not overwhelming. Simple. Classic.
