Sub Zero celebrates Founders’ Day on March 25! What better way to celebrate 15 years of the perfect ice cream than with a little friendly competition between our two founders? Jerry’s favorite flavor will be going head to head with Naomi’s favorite flavor in a competition to win the most votes! Who has the better ice cream? How can you know without trying them both? Though trying each ice cream is clearly the best way, a close second is reading further for a little mental taste to help you choose.
Coconut and Berries is as fun as our founder Jerry Hancock with coconut flavored ice cream and a variety of berries mixed in, raspberries optional. Take an imagination vacation with this tropical-tasting combo. The sweetness of the ice cream is mellowed out by the natural sweetness and tartness of the berries, which give it so much variety. A blueberry here, a blackberry there, each with different tastes, different textures, all are complementary and tied together with the tropical taste of coconut. The waffle bowl is the perfect accessory to the tropical image. I love the small raspberry bits scattered through the ice cream so that every bite has a sweet-tart bit of berry flavor. This has more of a natural sweet taste and isn’t overwhelming. The berries give it a pretty purple color. I might even call it berry ice cream with coconut undertones depending on how much tasty berry juice you get!
Caramel Amaretto with Brownies is as sweet as our founder Naomi Hancock with Caramel and Amaretto flavored ice cream and brownies mixed in, pecans optional. This one is decadent and perfect for those with a sweet tooth. First, Amaretto is an exquisite flavor, so unique and rich, everyone should try it at least once. It defines this as a sensation. The brownie breaks up the sweetness of the Caramel and Amaretto with it’s darker chocolate taste and thick texture. Caramel and brownies have always gone well together, and paired with the Amaretto are a real treat. I prefer it with the pecans because they mellow out the sweetness and add that perfect amount of crunch. It reminds me of one of my favorite candies, a combination of chocolate, caramel, and pecans. The waffle bowl really enhances it with a nice contrast of taste and texture.
Bottom line: Perfect representations of their founder counterparts, these are actually very complementary flavors to each other, and their names say it all. This is sure to be quite the competition.
